De'space: Designer's Space

Because "design" spans such a broad range of practices, language used within design communities is often inconsistent. Analyzing natural-language conversations from online communities and open chat rooms confirmed that communication among an unspecified group sharing only the keyword "design" as common ground tends not to go smoothly.

The project set out to build a research tool for design inquiry that would enable more effective, interactive interfaces from a designer's perspective — a design space designed for designers. The process, from interface planning through development, was carried out via text analysis, storyboarding, UI design, and a post-study survey.
